GOTR race- please support

One of my favorite organizations is Girls on the Run. The local chapter was started by runner and mom-extraordinaire Paula Hunstman. Their mission is, "Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. During the 6-12 week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and self-confident women."

Their annual Family Fitness 5K and 1-mile walk are on June 8. You can learn more about GOTR and register for the race at http://www.otsegocountygotr.org/.

Running Ailments

My running partner has been suffering from a "side stitch" on almost every run. I've done a little reading on the topic and understand it might have something to do with your right foot hitting the ground at the same time as you inhale, or possibly several other stride/breathing related issues. Does anyone have a good remedy to the problem? Should she be more concerned? She's trying to run through it but it is sometimes so painful she must walk.

The Boilermaker and other races

I have been running for several years, but have to admit I shy away from racing. I've raced in the Coop Loop twice and the wonderful GOTR family run. It seems like everyone has run the Boilermaker and my friend asked me to help her train so I figured I might as well jump on the band wagon and add the steamy July jaunt to my list. I'm officially registered and have told my husband he and my daughter will be standing on the sidelines with sign in hand cheering me on.

Help! I'm looking for tips about preparing for the Boilermaker & for insights about the actual race.

Haven't signed up yet? www.boilermaker.com

Any other suggestions for races around NY?

Looking for Friendly Running Routes

As we increase our mileage in preparation for the Boilermaker, my running partner and I are looking for friendly routes around Cooperstown and Fly Creek. We've heard horror stories about dogs and speeding cars. Does anyone have a favorite they'd like to share in the 5-9 mile range?

Our current 3-miler is the Coop Loop: Start at the CSC. Head towards town. Turn left on Walnut. Turn right on Delaware. Turn right on Elm. Turn left on Pioneer. Turn right on Lake. Turn left on Main and here's where the fun begins. A quick uphill before a right onto Estli. A climb uphill before turning right and heading back to the CSC.

My Fly Creek version: Start at "the Four Corners". Head N on 28, turn right on Cat Town Road, turn right on Hoke Road, turn right on 26. End at Four Corners. Enjoy a coffee and pick up organic milk at the General Store.
